The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Origen :

Poultry, like others  animals  have been with mankind since  life
began.

During the process of evolution, mankind and animals have  made many
changes, which gives us the  many races and breeds that we know today.

The domestic poultry we know today have Asiatic origin, and with that in mind we must suppose that poultry has followed the people that colonized  the European continent. Such as the Celts, that have lived in the north of the Iberia peninsula.

We find that the PITA PINTA ASTURIANA, THE EUSKO-OILOA and even the PARDO OF LEON, belongs to the ATLANTC group  along with  all the races of the centre and the north of Europe.

The Pita Pinta Austrian, was found in 1980  in various places of the region of Asturias for the biologist  and rural veterinary , Dr.  Rafael Eguiño Marcos, was fixed in 1991.

With the help of Doctor  Fernando Orozco Piñan in 1995 he has published  the Standard  of the race.

At the same time, it was reintroduced in the Asturias region, where the number  of animals  started to increase very rapidly.

In 1997 it was presented for the first time in a Regional poultry exhibition.

December of 2000  was the first time  the mottled Asturian was presented in Europe where it generated great interest with the breeders at the “Rassegefiugelschau exhibition”  in Nurenberg,  Germany.

In the year 2004 it was included in the in the official catalogue of Spanish races, as a  autochthonous Asturian race  in special danger of extinction.

Works and projects:

The Asociación de Criadores de Pita Pinta Asturiana, ( Now known as A.C.P.P.A.)  was founded in 2003,  It is responsible for the preservation, promotion,  improvement of the race, and the updating of the Genealogic book of the race.

Starting from this moment the  A.C.P.P.A. Technical Secretary  together with the breeders,  has started a plan of preserving and selection of the race .

We also endeavour to urge more breeders to become interested in the Mottled Asturian.

Promotion:

To promote this breed we have organised conferences. Bringing together both breeders and anyone who has an interest in this breed.

Since 2003, the A.C.P.P.A. has organised shows of the Mottled Asturian in different locations throughout Asturias.

We have also had a presence in various other shows on the regional, national and International circuit:
